Asphalt Maintenance Questions & Answers


Sealing Questions:

Q.  When can I drive on my newly sealed driveway?

A.  The next morning if you are in a hurry or 24 hours after sealing.

 

Q. Does Jennite pick up the stakes and signs?

A. No, Please throw both away after 24 hour period.  

 

Q. We had rain the same day we sealed our drive, did it hurt the sealer?

A. If sealer was all light dull blue and dry to the touch, The rain probably did not affect the job.  If you still have a question, Please call our office and we will stop by and check on it. 

 

Q. When will it need to be sealed again?

A. Most homeowners want to reseal again in the third year for cosmetic reasons.

 

Q. After I sign my contract, when will my job be done?

A. Generally the job will be completed within three weeks if not sooner.  To avoid multiple calls we will check the weather and then call the evening before to schedule your job.  

 

Q. If we were scheduled and rain didn't permit the job to be done, will Jennite be back the next day? 

A.  No, We will calla gain to reschedule within a couple of days for the earliest open date, unless otherwise stated at the time of scheduling call.  

 

Q. Do I need to turn my sprinklers off?

A. Yes, Please do this as soon as you hear from us.  

 

Q. What time will we be there?

A.  Anytime after 8a.m. and until about 4p.m.  You do not need to be home for us to do your drive.  

 

Q. How do I avoid power steering scuff marks?

A.  Driveways with turn arounds, rear load or side garages are very susceptible to scuffing  If driver turns power steering without car moving.  Please be sure car is moving even slightly to avoid scuffing.

 

Paving Facts:

  • New asphalt can be driven on 3 days after paving.   Avoid parking on new asphalt for balance of the week or next 4 days.  This time can be shortened in cooler weather.

 

  • Side and rear load garages and drives with turn arounds are susceptible to power steering scuff marks if driver turns power steering without car moving.  This is more prevalent in hot temperatures.    

 

  • The earliest new asphalt can be sealed is 4 to 6 weeks.  If cars are maintained well and gas and oil leakage is minimal, driveway sealing could be put off till the following year.

 

  • Salt will not damage sealer but can be detrimental to unsealed asphalt if applied heavily year after year on aging unsealed asphalt.  

 

  • Ultra violet rays from the sun are the worst enemy to unsealed aspahlt.  

 

  • Caustic car and tire cleaners should be rinsed will from asphalt surface.

 

  • Avoid bike kick stands, tire jacks and firewood racks that have sharp pointed bases.
