Cliff Schoen founded the
Jennite Company of Toledo in 1946. The Company was eventually purchased by
son-in-laws Bob Wheeler and Kevin Smith.
The company was appointed by Maintenance Inc. of Wooster, Ohio as authorized
distributor/applicator of the Jennite product for Northwest Ohio. For 29
years Jennite Company was strictly a blacktop maintenance company. As time
went by, the company needed to expand it‘s workforce to meet customer demand
and to staff it‘s expanded services. Since 1975 Jennite Company has been
installing new pavement on residential, commercial and industrial sites
throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeastern Michigan.
In 1986 Kevin became sole proprietor of Smith-Wheeler, now
Courtsmiths, which specializes in
tennis court & running track construction and Bob Wheeler Sr. became sole
proprietor of The Jennite Company. At that time Bob Sr. and sons continued
building both seal and paving areas of the business. While it’s paving
division has grown more than 3 times from it’s inception, the seal division
of Jennite still remains the premier blacktop maintenance source in
Northwest Ohio & Southeastern Michigan.
From it’s simple beginnings both Bob & Kevin have raised and
educated 17 children, seven of which have stayed in the same business as
their fathers.
Kevin’s sons Mike & Pete have purchased
Courtsmiths
from their father who has agreed to stay on as a consultant.
Jack and Pat ( two of Bob Sr.’s sons) and daughters
Kyle and Kim and brother in law, Steve Liggett are in
business in Austin, Texas. Their company,
Wheeler
Coatings, offers a complete line of blacktop services and
products. Sons Bob Jr. & Tom have recently purchased The Jennite Company
with Bob Sr. agreeing to stay on as President and CEO.
Bob Jr. & Tom continue to keep their father’s work ethic. Their #1 goal is
customer satisfaction which is what made The Jennite Company “Toledo’s
favorite Paving and Sealing contractor”.
